No email is sent
The SMTP DATA command is never issued. The connection is closed right after the RCPT TO response, so no message, subject or content is ever transmitted.
What the result means
| Result | Meaning |

| Valid | The receiving mail server accepted the address, so the mailbox exists. |
| Invalid | The mailbox does not exist, or the domain has no mail servers. |
| Risky | The address may work but cannot be confirmed — for example the domain accepts every address (catch-all), or it is a disposable address. |
| Unknown | The mail server gave no definite answer (temporary error, greylisting, or it could not be reached). |
Key facts
Limited free use
One check per visitor per day, and a small total number of free checks per day. Behind that, the checker is rate limited per domain and per mail provider so no mail server is ever flooded.
Nothing is stored
The address you check is held in memory only for the few seconds the check runs, then deleted. It is not logged, stored or shared. Daily counters hold only hashed IP addresses and are cleared daily.
One address at a time
There is no bulk public API, no list upload and no account. The free checker is for confirming a single address you already have.
Fair use
Please use the checker only for addresses you have a genuine reason to check. Harvesting, guessing or enumerating addresses, bulk or automated use, and using results to harass anyone are not allowed. The limit is one address per day per visitor, and we may block abusive traffic. Full rules: Acceptable use policy.
Privacy in short
The checked address is used only for the live check and is not stored or logged afterwards. To enforce the daily limit we keep a counter keyed on a salted hash of your IP address — never the IP itself — in memory only, and it is cleared daily. The site uses no cookies, analytics or third-party resources. Details: Privacy policy.
For mail server administrators
If you see SMTP sessions from a host identifying itself as verify.lgpteam.com in its HELO/EHLO greeting, that is this service. Each session performs at most a lookup of whether a recipient is accepted, then disconnects with QUIT.
