Internal email address verification

The Email Verifier checks whether email addresses can receive mail, using DNS MX lookups and SMTP RCPT TO checks. It never sends email, never transmits message content, and is used only by authorized staff.

What this service is

We maintain contact information for the people and organizations it works with. Addresses change, mailboxes are closed and typing mistakes happen. The Email Verifier is an internal tool that lets our staff confirm that an address is still deliverable before it is used, which keeps our records accurate and avoids sending mail that would bounce.

The service is not offered to the public, is not resold, and is not used to discover or collect new addresses. It only checks addresses that our staff already hold for a legitimate business purpose.

Key facts

No email is sent

The SMTP DATA command is never issued. The connection is closed right after the RCPT TO response, so no message, subject or content is ever transmitted.

Strictly rate limited

About 60 checks per minute in total, at most 10 checks per recipient domain and at most 40 per mailbox provider in any 10-minute window.

Memory only

Addresses are held in memory while a check runs and purged once results are fetched. No address lists are written to disk.

Staff only

Access is limited to authorized staff through a restricted portal. There is no public API and no self-service sign-up.

For mail server administrators

If you see SMTP sessions from a host identifying itself as lgpteam.com in its HELO/EHLO greeting, that is this service. Each session performs at most a lookup of whether a recipient is accepted, then disconnects with QUIT.

If our checks cause any problem for your systems, or you would simply prefer that your domain is not checked, write to abuse@lgpteam.com. We respond within one business day and honor every exclusion request. See Abuse & opt-out for details.
